MFI trading director Hugh Edwards said the team needs to be strengthened to “handle a substantially bigger business”.
He said: “We are seeking to future-proof ourselves as we prepare for substantial growth in the business. With the backing of our new owners, we now have the money to push into new areas and hire a bigger team to drive growth.”
MFI is searching for about seven staff for roles such as category product managers, buyers and marketing managers.
It expects to have the new team, which will work alongside Edwards and marketing director Michael Greenhalgh, in place early this year.
Edwards said the recruitment drive will support the retailer’s plans to move into new product categories. It also wants to extend its product ranges, which include kitchens, sofas and bedrooms. In addition, it has launched a range called Space Genie, which gives customers space-saving solutions designed to maximise every area of the kitchen.
“We want to get our market share back,” said Edwards. “As well as improving our offer, that means we need to bring in new products and make sure we provide everything that our customers need. We’ve been searching for new products and materials since last year and will see lots of new lines this year.”
MFI, which was bought by Merchant Equity Partners a year ago, introduced its black and white branding late last year.
MFI chief executive Gary Favell said: “MFI had suffered as consumer expectations of the brand were low, so it took us a while to get the business back in shape and improve on all aspects.
“We want them [customers] to come back to MFI and try us once again and hopefully when they do come back, they will see we are focused on quality and service and also have a greater range of products than they expected.”
