Jenni Matthews will be proved wrong. MRI's analysis has failed to recognise the importance of payday - most companies pay early for Christmas and there are many customers who are waiting for their December pay cheque before spending. The 23rd December is always our busiest day of the year, regardless of which day of the week it falls. With it being a Saturday this year it will be huge and significantly surpass last Saturday.
I think the comments by the council that the delay and subsequent cancellation is a blessing in disguise is well made.
We at Menkind had to close our Kingston store for a couple of days this week. Unfortunately it is all but impossible to effectively make plans to contend with the randomness of all this. The problem was predicted before "freedom day" which would lead to a rise in infections, so it is unacceptable that revised rules weren't brought in concurrently such as an obligation to take lateral flow if you're pinged for example as alternative to isolation. The current government intransigence is not strength but just be obstinance and a reflection of weak leadership. (beware of anyone who makes the statement "I'm not afraid to make tough decisions") If we ran our businesses in such a haphazard way we would fail.
