DIY giant B&Q has made about 180 staff redundant across its shops as it restructures its store management teams.
The 356-store retailer has replaced two roles – senior manager, stock, and senior manager, service – with one, that of deputy manager.
A B&Q spokeswoman said the retailer has created the new structure to “meet a number of business needs”. These include “having the best management structure in place to deliver the best service for our customers, and reducing the gap between management and the customer”, she added.
The spokeswoman said: “While the structure change has created new opportunities for many colleagues, it has meant that some have left the business.”
The new roles came into effect earlier this month, at which point those made redundant left the business.
The move comes less than a year after B&Q restructured its head office to create a more “customer-focused, agile, omnichannel retailer”. The retailer made 15% of its head office staff redundant, equating to the loss of 220 net redundancies across a range of functions.
