Luxury department store Harvey Nichols has named Net-a-Porter’s former buying director Kate Benson as its new chief merchant, effective immediately.
Harvey Nichols announced the appointment of Benson who joins following a seven-year stint at luxury retailer Net-a-Porter where she most recently held the role of buying director.
The department store called Benson a “decisive leader” who brings skills in designing and delivering “elevated product strategies” to the business.
She also brings “strong relationships” with luxury brands that she has worked with during her career including Tom Ford, Gabriela Hearst and Chloé.
Harvey Nichols chief executive Julia Goddard said: “Kate’s deep understanding of the global luxury and fashion market makes her a respected leader to further evolve our buying strategy at Harvey Nichols.
“Her expertise built through previous senior roles will be instrumental in enhancing the customer experience and driving the growth of the business.
“We are thrilled to welcome her at a pivotal time in the luxury and fashion space.”
Benson said: “Joining the Harvey Nichols leadership team at such an exciting time is a fantastic opportunity.
“With the brand’s vision for growth and innovation, I’m eager to contribute my experience to shape the business’ buying strategy, build strong partnerships and deliver exceptional customer experiences.”
The appointment marks the second under the leadership of Goddard, who was appointed in April, following the announcement that British fashion journalist and stylist Kate Phelan was becoming creative director last month.
