Sainsbury’s has today opened its first extended 100,000 sq ft store with a series of new areas.
The extension to Crayford will mean the store is two and a half times bigger than its original size. Today the grocer has also opened its largest store in Scotland at Darnley, at 90,000 sq ft, and its largest in Wales at Newport, at 76,000 sq ft.
At Crayford, Sainsbury’s fresh food prepared on the counters will be available in the café and in the food to go ranges.
The home and lifestyle section of the store will spread out over 25,000 sq ft, and for the first time shoppers will be able to try out a full range of beds and sofas on display.
The store will also feature Sainsbury’s largest range of home entertainment, and a 20,000 sq ft Tu clothing range.
The stores are part of Sainsbury’s plans to increase its shop floor space by 15% in the two years to March 2011.
