Spanish fashion retailer Bimba & Lola is eyeing high-profile London locations for its first UK store.

The retailer is understood to be looking at shops on Regent Street as well as Westfield London. It is unclear how many shops the upmarket retailer wants in this country or how close it is to signing.

Its interest comes as Spanish retail group Cortefiel this week revealed its intention to launch its Pedro del Hierro brand online in the UK.

Cortefiel has already opened Springfield, Women’secret and Cortefiel stores through a tie up with Brand Empire, the Land Securities-backed initiative to bring international brands to the UK.

Bimba & Lola has more than 100 stores in Spain, Portugal, France, Asia and the Middle East.

The retailer targets women aged 25 to 45 and describes itself as “midway between the luxury brands and the high street fashion chains”.

In 2009 Bimba & Lola outlined plans for international expansion with the goal to “dress women in the main European cities as well as in the US, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East”.

Bimba & Lola will hope to emulate the success that other Spanish fashion groups have had in the UK. Inditex-owned Zara has 65 shops here, while Desigual paid a record rent last year to move into the former Disney store on Oxford Street.
