Discount retailer The Works is launching a click-and-collect service across all of its stores as it seeks to build on strong like-for-like growth.
The click-and-collect service will allow customers to pick up orders from 306 stores across the UK and Ireland and will be supported by a new mobile-optimised version of its website.
The Works, whose owners private equity firm Endless and entrepreneur Anthony Solomon are currently exploring a sale of the company, is overhauling its multichannel presence on the back of a 13% increase in like-for-like sales for the 12 months to August 31.
The Works chief executive Kevin Keaney said: “We have had an excellent start to the 2015 financial year and with all of the hard work put in by the team to launch our new multichannel services, we’re also in good shape to have a strong Christmas.”
The retailer has also made two senior hires to boost its multichannel business, which drove more than 90% growth in ecommerce sales last year.
Simon Joseph has joined as multichannel director from Asda, while Tom Scott has been hired as IT director from B&Q.
The Works is in the midst of a transformation of the business and this summer unveiled plans to increase sales by almost 50% in the next three years as it expands beyond its books origins.
The company aims to be recognised as a family-friendly general discounter rather than a books specialist and has now decreased sales of books to less than half of its sales.
It is also piloting a new store format that features a yellow fascia with TheWorks.co.uk branding instead of the standard blue fascia.
