Waitrose has reported total sales up 10.7% in the week it reopened its flagship Canary Wharf store as its first Food, Fashion & Home shop.
The £15m revamp of Canary Wharf saw it expand from 71,000 sq ft to 74,000 sq ft. The grocer said the first few days of trading have “exceeded expectations”.
It features food, homewares and furnishings and fashion and beauty. In the first day, total sales were up by 43.6%.
Waitrose also opened a store on Tuesday at Westfield Stratford City. The 20,968 sq ft shop is its greenest store to date.
Waitrose said sales patterns in the last week were autumnal, with sales of hot pies and pizzas up by 35% and 40% respectively. Frozen chips and roast potatoes were up 14.5% and 33% respectively.
Hosiery sales were up by 28%.
Yesterday, Waitrose reported full year profits dipped slightly as it invested in the business while sales grew strongly.
