Amazon is piloting a next day grocery delivery service in Seattle that allows customers to order goods by 11pm and receive their order by 6am the next day.

Vice-president of international seller services Eric Broussard said at the World Retail Congress in Berlin today the company is trying to understand what the service, called Amazon Fresh, could do for the business.

“The potential is very big. It could completely transform the way people think of Amazon and the customer experience if they are ordering every day.”

The service is only available in a limited number of addresses in Seattle. Broussard said the local element of the scheme could be important for the company. “If we know where people are and when, the recommendations we can make will be much more informed. Our recommendations are evolving and having data that local will make them much better.”
