Amazon has launched a grocery offer in the UK offering thousands of household goods and food.

The etail giant has launched its first grocery store, amazon.co.uk/grocery today offering free delivery on orders, as revealed by Retail Week last year.

Amazon UK director of grocery James Leeson said: “Amazon.co.uk’s aim is to be the place where customers can find and discover any product they want to buy online, and with the introduction of this new store there are thousands of household, niche, ethnic and international grocery items, all available at the click of a button.”

He added: “With unlimited virtual shelf space, customers can choose from a wide variety of products, all of which benefit from free delivery. We will work tirelessly to increase the selection of grocery items available to be delivered directly to customers’ doors.”

The move comes the same week as online food retailer Ocado starts its investor road show and could be seen as a possible threat.

The range of over 22,000 groceries includes big brands and everyday items as well as international and specialist items such as kosher food, vegan and gluten free ranges.
