Asda has launched a new mobile app which allows customers to buy groceries online and compare the price of their shopping to rivals using an iPhone.
Customers can download the Asda App onto their iPhone and register, shop and amend an existing order or delivery slot up until 10pm the day before their delivery is due. The move follows the launch of the retailer’s mobile-optimised site in August this year.
The app has an integrated scanner enabling customers to add new products to their basket by scanning a barcode. It also includes a mobile store locator, offering maps and directions so customers can find their nearest Asda store.
More than 50% of ASDA.com customers own a smartphone and the supermarket said it is developing an Android version of the app.
Asda said the app is unique in enabling busy shoppers to do a price check on the move and incorporates the existing Asda Price Guarantee iPhone app which launched last month.
Customers can use details from store or online delivery receipts to check the cost of their Asda groceries against Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Waitrose and receive a voucher if it’s not 10% cheaper.
Asda head of mobile strategy Kate Cuthbertson said: “More than 60% of customers who access the Asda.com mobile website do so using iPhones, so we’ve created an app that allows them to shop – and price check – on the move.
“Our mobile strategy is moving at pace with more new developments planned into the New Year.”
The Asda app was an international collaboration between Asda and the Walmart mobile team based in the US.
