Staff recruitment push to exploit demand for opticians, photo processing and jewellery
Asda will spend£7 million this year rolling out its jewellery, optical and photo centres. The move is expected to create nearly 800 jobs.

The retailer will open 30 in-store photo centres, adding 300 staff; 30 jewellery areas, requiring 400 staff; and 6 optical zones, creating 60 jobs. By the end of the year, Asda will be running 140 photo centres, 210 jewellery departments and 85 opticians.

Asda non-food director Tony Page said: 'Thanks to every day high-street-beating prices, customers love to pick up carats with their carrots, process their prints when picking up a pinta and even get their eyesight tested before they reach the checkout.'

The news comes as it emerged Asda made an unsolicited offer of£500 million for the Barclay brothers-owned Littlewoods business.
