Indie department store chain Beales has bought the Westgate department store in Rochdale for £300,000.
Beales, which also snapped up department store Robbs of Hexham in June for £250,000, has signed contracts for the purchase of the assets of the Rochdale store, from The Anglia Regional Co-operative Society. It has agreed a 25 year lease.
The purchase brings Beales’ total number of department stores to thirteen with four in the North West.
The deal is set for completion on September 5.
Beales said it was impressed with plans for the town centre which include new transport links and said it would bring a “better mix of shopping in the town than the current predominance of discount retailers”.
Beales will convert the store over the next six months.
