The kiosk, which is located at the retailer’s High Street Kensington store, is branded with the logo of its supplier Lifesystems and displays a version of the content available on Lifesystems’ Big Planet web site.
The kiosk is in the store’s basement, in the centre of a display of the supplier’s outdoor and travel health products, which include water purification devices, travel first-aid kits and mosquito nets.
The kiosk provides information about more than 130 countries that customers are likely to visit, with sections on healthcare, geography, general transport information, checklists appropriate to the country and recommended products.
Customers can create an account in the section of the site called Your Notebook, where they can store and retrieve information about countries, either once they get home, or wherever they are in the world via the site.
The kiosk hosts a number of PDF downloads, which can also be accessed through the site. These contain information such as which mosquito net to choose and what the various sizes of first-aid kits contain. The download section includes checklists for different types of trips, such as gap year, desert or jungle.
The kiosk also gives the option of buying specific products online from one of Lifesystems’ retail partners, including Blacks. However, on the day that Retail Week visited the store, the link to Blacks’ site was not working.
