Nadine Lewis, managing director of IdentiKids, which manufactures the bands, said all 1,014 Boots shops and 48 Mothercare stores would be stocking the yellow PVC-coated bracelets, which are designed to be worn by children up to the age of 10.
The Tots ID bands were created in response to research commissioned by IdentiKids and carried out by Saros Research in March, which discovered that 80 per cent of parents interviewed admitted to losing their child at some point while out shopping.
The bands have a childproof fastening and will cost£6 for a pack of three at Boots. The pack includes a permanent marker to write the child's name and parent's contact details on the inside.
As well as the Tots ID bands, Mothercare is also set to stock an additional ID bracelet - the Tyvek Single Use Band - aimed at all ages, which will cost£4.15 for a pack of 15.
