Beales said that the boost was caused by its Southport store doing well following its refurbishment, as well as the addition of fashion ranges for young shoppers in all stores except Winchester. Womenswear and homewares also performed well and a concentration on stock management benefited cash flow.
Beales chief executive Allan Allkins said: 'We have worked hard to improve our assortment mix, control our stock levels and our expenditure. Coupled with the implementation of our business plan changes, we are beginning to see the fruits of our work.'
