Figures collected by the retail data company show the number of shoppers visiting the UK's department stores was up 20 per cent for week 16 year on year, compared to a 2.7 per cent drop in the number visiting high street stores.
A spokeswoman for FootFall said: 'Through a combination of Easter discounting and carefully managed stock, which took into account the increasingly warm weather and the approach of the new school term, department stores continue to attract shoppers where high street retailers fail.'
