Shoppers fled as gunshots were heard on the ground floor of Harvey Nichols, in Knightsbridge, at 7.45pm yesterday evening. The store was cordoned off and its fifth-floor restaurant, which at first had stayed trading, was later evacuated.
Witnesses said they heard four gunshots from the ground floor area followed by panic as shoppers raced for the exits.
Both the suspected gunman and victim, thought to be a beauty assistant in her 30s, were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither has been formally identified and police could not confirm whether they knew each other, although there is speculation that the gunman was a former security guard at the store
However, a police spokesman said that they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.
