Students need to train for the right qualifications to plug the skills gaps in retail, said Theo Paphitis.
The boss of Ryman, Robert Dyas and Boux Avenue said: “Let’s look forward to the future. We need to work out what it is we need and encourage the kids of today to train in those industries we know there will be a demand for.”
He added that he doesn’t feel there is a “skills crisis” but there are too many students in degrees where there is low demand for jobs, such as photography.
He added that one of the big concerns for retailers is how to ensure they are using technology to serve customers.
