Retail Week looks ahead to the next seven days, with updates from Dixons Carphone, N Brown, Pets at Home, WHSmith and Asos on the agenda.

Dixons Carphone

The electricals specialist will report its Christmas update on Tuesday, January 23. According to boss Seb James’ Twitter feed, Black Friday was a roaring success for Dixons Carphone but investors will be keen to see if the numbers tally with that enthusiasm. A good peak would help pull Dixons Carphone out of the doldrums following a shock profit warning at its interims.

N Brown

The specialist fashion retailer will post its third-quarter trading update on Tuesday. N Brown’s profits inched up at its interims, bolstered by ‘power brand’ revenue rising 14.3%.

Pets at Home

The pets specialist will report its third-quarter results on Tuesday. Pets at Home is currently in the midst of changing its leadership with chief executive Ian Kellett handing over to current retail boss Peter Pritchard.

At its interims, statutory pre-tax profit fell 11.3% to £40.8m in the 28 weeks to October 12, despite a 3.9% increase in like-for-like revenue across the group.

WHSmith

The stationer will report its Christmas trading update on Wednesday, January 24. WHSmith had its biggest ever Christmas in 2015 when adult colouring books were en vogue, but it was unable to replicate the same level of success the next year.

Has it found the next big thing to make 2017 a winner? Investors will be hoping so.

Asos

The etailer will post its first-quarter update on Thursday, January 25. At its last update, Asos’ profits more than doubled, driven by strong international sales and currency tailwinds.

A weak spot was UK sales, which rose 16%. While strong in the fashion market, it represents a slowdown for the etailer and it will be intriguing to see whether it has weakened further.
