Former Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy has been appointed to the board of delivery specialist MetaPack.
Leahy, who is also chairman of discounter B&M Bargains, became a shareholder in the ecommerce and multichannel delivery firm in June 2011 and has been a regular advisor to the company since his investment.
He will now take up a directorship to aid the company’s growth and will help the firm expand internationally after opening its first European office in Hamburg, Germany this month.
MetaPack works with a range of retailers including John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and Asos to allow retailers to provide click-and-collect offers and shoppers to track parcels among other services.
Leahy said: “MetaPack are already the de-facto standard for delivery excellence who have helped navigate the highly developed and complex UK carrier market.
“Europe and the rest of the world now realise the need for more effective delivery processes and I intend to help ensure MetaPack builds the network supporting the virtual supply chain as they advance.”
Former Best Buy co-chief executive and MetaPack chairman Robert Willett said:“We are delighted to formalise this relationship with Sir Terry who has already provided the board with valuable insight over the past year and a half. His knowledge of international growth will prove invaluable as we bring the benefits of the system to retailers worldwide.”
