Coronavirus brought unprecedented demand for grocery retailers, but it has also dramatically changed how we buy and consume food. Retail Week looks into which new shopping behaviours and trends will be here to stay once the pandemic subsides

Coronavirus has had a transformational effect on the UK grocery industry over the last two months or so. 

Grocery retailers have had to deal with stockpiling at the beginning of the pandemic – over a three-day period in mid-March UK customers made an additional 42 million supermarket trips – which has given way to social distancing and a return to the once-a-week big trolley shop as customers seek to avoid busy supermarkets.
