Lidl to spend £25m on electric vehicle charging points at stores

Lidl has said it plans to spend more than £25m installing rapid charging points for electric vehicles at 300 stores by 2022.

The discounter said its commitment supported the government’s plan to “deliver a significant increase in quality infrastructure to support ultra-low emission vehicles,” and would be installed at all new stores and existing stores able to accommodate the infrastructure.

By 2022, the retailer said it would have installed charging points at over 300 of its stores – more than a third of its current store estate. It currently has rapid charger technology at 40 stores across the UK.

Chief development officer for Lidl, Ingo Fischer said: “At Lidl, we are committed to tackling the environmental concerns that our customers care most about, whilst giving them access to solutions that will support them in their ambition to lead more sustainable lives.
