Morrisons is extending its partnership with surplus food marketplace Too Good To Go to allow customers to purchase bags of food at a reduced price at Morrisons Daily convenience stores.
The ‘Surprise Bags’ of reduced-price food that is nearing its sell-by date can now be found in 930 of its c-stores across the UK, in a bid to offer greater value and reduce food waste across the business.
Customers will be able to access the bags of food via the Too Good To Go app and searching for their nearest Morrisons Daily store, before arranging a time for collection.
The news comes after a range of successful trials across the North of England, the Midlands and Wales.
Morrisons became Too Good To Go’s first supermarket partner in 2019 and during the trials to date has saved more than 40,000 bags of waste across the UK.
Morrisons senior sustainability manager Andrew Edlin said: “Customers and colleagues continue to tell us how much they value Too Good To Go’s Surprise Bags from Morrisons.
“It saves customers money while also helping us to play our part in reducing food waste and hitting our sustainability target of achieving Scope 3 net-zero operational emissions, so we are delighted to be rolling the bags out to some of our Morrisons Daily convenience stores.”
Too Good To Go country director for the UK and Ireland Sophie Trueman added: “Our team is absolutely thrilled to have Morrisons Daily joining the fight against food waste.
“We believe that saving food from going to waste is a win-win-win–- businesses can recover the sunk cost of would-be wasted food, consumers can get good food for less and with one simple action, we’re collectively doing something great for the planet by stopping that food from ending up in landfill.”
Since the start of the partnership, it has broadened to include almost 500 Morrisons supermarkets across the UK including Market Kitchen and Café venues.
