Grocery giant Sainsbury’s has revamped its same-day delivery and click-and-collect service to tap into growing customer demand for super-fast delivery.
The grocer has relaunched its same-day delivery service, having paused it during the pandemic.
Sainsbury’s will be adding 100 new stores by the end of October and 100 new click-and-collect locations versus pre-pandemic levels as the retailer looks to reach people “who are getting out and about more as they return to work and a more ‘normal’ daily routine”.
Customers who book a same-day delivery before midday can choose a delivery slot after 5pm or click-and-collect spot after 4pm.
Sainsbury’s said that online growth “has been hugely important to customers over the last 18 months” and it can now fulfil 850,000 online orders per week.
The retailer said it has also rolled out its partnerships with Deliveroo and Uber Eats to more than 500 stores, and is expanding its Chop Chop service to a further 25 supermarkets, bringing the total to 75 stores in around 25 cities.
Sainsbury’s said the most popular products on Chop Chop include milk, eggs and bananas. Over the summer Chop Chop customers bought 10,000 packs of strawberries, 6,000 packs of sausages, 4,000 packs of magnum ice creams and 3,000 bottles of prosecco.
Nigel Blunt, Sainsbury’s director of ecommerce, said: “Customer demand for shopping online and for getting groceries quickly and conveniently has grown significantly and we are committed to offering customers choice and flexibility – whether that’s within 20 minutes to their front door or picking it up at their local store on their way home from work.”
