Tesco has begun trialling same-day delivery for online groceries in Mansfield in Nottinghamshire.
Tesco managing director of grocery home shopping Simon Belsham said the trial forms part of the grocer’s plan to become a multichannel leader, and will roll out if successful.
He said: “We aim to offer customers the most convenient shopping, whether that is in store, online, same day or click and collect.”
Ocado already offers same day delivery while Asda plans to launch the service this year.
Tesco is also seeking further locations for click and collect on online groceries. Alongside its larger stores, it is also trialling click and collect around the York area at a school, a park and ride, and in office parks.
It also has two Express stores in Datchet and Harrow where it offers grocery click and collect via a Tesco van parked behind the stores. Belsham said Tesco would seek to roll this out to further locations where this model would work, particularly in London to target commuters.
