Tesco is offering a click-and-collect service outside of its stores for the first time at locations such as schools, libraries and sports centres.
The grocer is piloting the new service at three locations in York, allowing shoppers to collect products at a school and two car parks.
The collection points are at Huntington Secondary School, Monk Bar Car Park, which is near York St John University and Grimston Bar Park and Ride.
Tesco.com managing director Simon Belsham said: “Customers up and down the country already love using click-and-collect because they can do their shopping trip in a matter of minutes, even with the whole family in tow.
“We think customers are really going to like the extension to the service because it makes things even more convenient for them and it means they can fit their shopping in around their lifestyles.”
Tesco intends to pilot the service in two more locations before Christmas, including London and Dingwall, Scotland.
The initiaitive follows rival Asda’s launch of off-site click-and-collect last year on a business park in Reading. Asda is also in the process of broadening its offer to collection at universities, petrol stations and travel hubs.
