Tesco considers closing its defined benefit pension to new members
Tesco’s chief executive Dave Lewis is looking to close its defined-benefit pension scheme, one of the biggest in the UK, to new members, The Telegraph reported. This overhaul comes as part of Lewis’ plan to shore up the ailing retailer’s battered balance sheet. The supermarket chain is nursing a £3.4bn pension deficit in the face of plunging sales and threats from credit rating agencies to downgrade its debt to junk status.
Aldi recalls Choceur Treasures after salmonella found
Discount supermarket retailer Aldi is recalling packs of chocolate after salmonella was found in a batch, The Telegraph reported. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a product recall notice for 200g Choceur Treasures with a best before date of September 1. The bacteria have been detected in a batch of the product that has been on sale in Aldi stores in the Midlands region. The FSA warned people not to eat the product and anyone who has purchased it has been asked to return it to an Aldi store for a refund.
