Former partners left with huge bill
Retail entrepreneur Sir Tom Hunter has won a bitter court battle against former Gadgetshop business partners Jon Wood and Peter Wilkinson.

The Scottish multimillionaire emerged victorious from the high-profile case that is understood to have left Wood and Wilkinson facing a legal bill of up to£5 million.

The claim against Hunter and Gadgetshop chief executive Chris Gorman was that they diverted a potentially lucrative deal for Gadgetshop, buying card and gifts chain Birthdays for themselves.

In London's High Court yesterday afternoon, Justice Warren dismissed the Companies Act petition brought by Freeserve co-founder Wilkinson and UBS trader Wood.

According to court reports, the judge said he did not consider that Wood and Wilkinson had suffered any 'unfair prejudice' by the fact that Birthdays had been acquired.
