Intermarché is to increase its presence in big French urban centres by growing its Intermarché Express convenience format. The retailer has 22 convenience stores and expects to operate 50 by the end of 2012. Eight Express stores will open in the next four months, said Philippe Manzoni, president of ITM Alimentaire, which operates Intermarché grocery formats. In central Paris, the retailer expects to double its store count to 10. In the suburbs, it is working on creating larger stores, of between 10,760 sq ft and 16,145 sq ft.
