Grocer Loblaw has reported sales of CAD9.6bn (£5.9bn) in the 16 weeks ended October 9, up from CAD9.5bn (£5.95bn) in the previous year, helped by the acquisition of Asian supermarket chain T&T.
Like-for-like sales declined 0.4%. Gross profit increased by CAD152m (£94m), or 7%, to CAD2.3bn (£1.4bn) in the third quarter. Sales in food were flat while sales in the drugstore segment declined marginally after regulatory changes in Ontario. Sales of the retailer’s clothing line were strong but sales of general merchandise declined significantly.
