Outgoing boss to pass on top job to operations officer because of poor health
Halfords chief operating officer Ian McLeod will replace chief executive David Hamid, who is resigning because of ill health. McLeod joined the group in September 2003 after being chief executive of Celtic football club for two years and a 20-year stint at Asda as director of Asda Stores. He will take up his new post this week.
Hamid will remain at Halfords as an adviser to the board until the end of June. Halfords chairman Rob Templeman said: 'We are sorry that David is retiring because of his poor health and the board would like to place on record its appreciation of his valuable contribution to the business. We are very fortunate to be able to appoint Ian immediately. He has great credentials for the job and has played an important role in running the business. We are confident that Halfords Group will continue to fulfil its potential under Ian's leadership.'
