Morrisons was again named Retailer of the Year last night at the Oracle Retail Week Awards.
It was the second successive year that the grocer claimed the top prize, which was presented in a ceremony at London's Grosvenor House hotel hosted by comedian Jimmy Carr.
Morrisons chief executive Marc Bolland thanked Retail Week for the accolade and told the audience that the team momentum was high and winning the award was a great tribute to all their hard work.
Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King was named Retail Leader of the Year, and Sainbury’s also took the award for best store design of the year.
Sir Geoff Mulcahy collected a special award for outstanding contribution to retail. He was given the award by Retail Week launch editor Patience Wheatcroft, who recalled Mulcahy's many headlines during his years in retail, and how he built up Woolworths and Kingfisher.
