JJB Sports has announced two appointments to its senior management team.
Lawrence Coppock has joined the sports retailer as finance director and Colin Tranter has joined as director of retail and product.
Coppock was previously group finance director at Wyndeham Press Group and has previously been a finance director at MFI and B&Q.
Tranter was managing director of CAT International until 2001 and bought and sourced clothes for retailers including River Island. He will be responsible for rejuvenating JJB’s product ranges and stores.
JJB Sports executive director Peter Williams will step down from the board at the end of this month. He has been with JJB since December and along with executive chairman Sir David Jones has been working on the rescue and turnaround of the struggling chain.
Jones said: “I am delighted that two people of Lawrence’s and Colin’s calibre have agreed to join us and take on the task of renewing and rebuilding JJB. With our financial restructuring progressing very well we have all the tools to develop this group into Britain’s premier sports retailer, for customers who are serious about their sport.”
He added: “At the same time I would like to express my enormous thanks to Peter, who was there for JJB when we needed a man of his skills most. He worked tirelessly to rescue this business.”
JJB will report its full year results on Thursday, it is expected to reveal a write-down of at least £60m.
