Jollyes has set its sights on being “one of the best employers in retail” after launching a suite of new benefits for its staff.
The petcare retailer, which employs over 1,000 people in the UK, has launched a new employee recognition scheme as well perks for its workers.
The ‘Top Dog’ scheme will allow team members to vote for a colleague who they feel deserves recognition for their work – with the winners rewarded with a day off, badge and certificate.
Other benefits include a day’s birthday leave, a day’s new pet leave, a week of wedding/civil partnership leave, and enhanced maternity and paternity with new parents receiving full pay for six months and two weeks of full pay respectively and a baby gift.
The store discount has also been enhanced to include 20% off Jollyes services, the ability to nominate a second person to get an in-store discount and a lifetime discount for colleagues who have served more than 20 years with the company.
Long-service award badges will also now be given from five to 30 years in five-year increments.
Jollyes chief executive Joe Wykes said: “Our colleagues are at the heart of our business – our customers rely on them for their knowledge and experience and love how they support the pets in their family.
“We’re building a package of support that reflects the importance of their work and commitment to our business – part of our aspiration to have some of the best benefits in retail. Our colleagues go the extra mile to make Jollyes a special place for customers – and that’s why we’re doing more to help colleagues celebrate the major milestones in their lives such as celebrating weddings and civil partnerships, becoming a mum or dad – and, of course, getting a new pet. Following a great year for the business, it’s another way for us to thank our colleagues’ hard work and help us recruit the best people for dream jobs working with animals as we look to open even more stores in 2023.”
Jollyes trades from 90 stores across the UK and is set to open 13 new locations in the next year including shops in Swindon, Wiltshire and Belfast. Sales at the retailer surpassed £100m in the current financial year, rising 33% to £115.5m for the year to May 29, 2023.
