Value variety retailer Poundland is cutting jobs across its head office in Walsall, West Midlands, as the business looks for ways to limit costs and work “smarter and more efficiently”.
The group is said to have placed “around 60 jobs under consultation” in various roles across its finance, supply chain, IT and property departments, Retail Gazette has reported.
Individuals impacted are still in conversations with Poundland following the review of the business last month.
A spokesperson for Poundland said: “Providing the amazing value we promise our customers depends on us delivering a business that is simple and efficient so our costs are as low as possible.
“It goes without saying we’re doing all we can to look after colleagues impacted.”
The group added that action was taken last month to remove some “central roles”.
Poundland has been prioritising the rollout of new stores, as well as the makeover of 150 existing ones as it expands ranges such as clothing, food and general merchandise.
The retailer also launched a rewards scheme in Scotland in June, with managing director Austin Cooke telling Retail Week the brand will be “moving into the digital space much more”.
