Primark is on track to increase its share of the£4.5 billion childrenswear market as value retailers monopolise the back to school rush.
The value retailer's share is expected to rise from a 5.4 per cent last year to 6.2 per cent, according to Verdict. This would make it the fourth biggest player in the childrenswear sector. Next, Asda and Tesco retain their positions as the top three childrenswear retailers and have been ramping up discounts for back to school products.
Verdict also expects Bhs’s share to fall to less than 3 per cent and believes that JJB Sports and Gap will also see their positions weakened.
