Department store group John Lewis is spending £14m on creating an ‘Ikea-style’ layout for the home department in its Oxford Street flagship.
The refurbished department will cover 94,000 sq ft across two floors and include 25 different room-sets. It is due to open in September.
The different rooms will be constantly updated to provide customers with inspiration and the department will be split into ‘room environments’.
The ‘light room’ will house 650 different lighting models and in the ‘fabric room’ there will be more than 12,500 furnishing fabrics.
John Lewis buying director Christine Kasoulis said: “John Lewis has always been at the forefront of quality and home design. We are the only retailer with the breadth and depth in choice and price, brand and own-brand mix to cover the everyday to the design classics.
“Our customers are looking for a more inspiring in-store experience, with the right expertise on hand to offer help with their homes should they need it.”
The new department is designed to be a blueprint that can be followed by other John Lewis stores nationwide.
John Lewis believes the refurbishment will allow shoppers to design every room in their home in one store.
