Lakeland employees will be punching the clock with a single finger when the retailer installs a time and attendance system that uses a biometric fingerprint scanner.
Lakeland has teamed up with employee relationship management vendor Kronos Systems to provide staff scheduling and attendance recording software.
The fingerprint ID system will cut out the paperwork generated when an employee forgets to bring the plastic key that operates the old time recording system.
The fingerprint readers link to software modules that handle shift planning, cost management, overtime, exception reporting and compliance with the EU Working Time Directive, replacing cumbersome Excel spreadsheets.
The system will cover 520 employees at Lakeland's Kendal distribution centre, and the customer service centre and flagship store at Windermere.
