Mothercare names Glyn Hughes new finance chief to replace outgoing Richard Smothers

Hughes, who is currently the retailer’s interim finance director, has been named chief finance officer designate.

Mothercare said he will take the reins fully on December 1, when Smothers leaves the business.

The retailer revealed back in May that Smothers had resigned, but was remaining in his role until a successor had been found.

Hughes has recently returned to the UK after 10 years in Asia with Dairy Farm Group.

He held a number of senior roles during his decade with the business, including chief executive of Dairy Farm Vietnam and regional finance director for North Asia.

Hughes also served as boss of 7-Eleven Hong Kong and Macau for 18 months, before departing the business in January.

Prior to his time in Asia, Hughes held roles with Kingfisher, Tesco and KPMG.

Mothercare boss Mark Newton-Jones said: “Glyn’s extensive international retail knowledge and finance experience will be a huge support to the team and me as our business goes through the next phase of its transition.”
