Argos has cut the prices of 1,500 products in its autumn/winter catalogue, which launches tomorrow, and is introducing a video game trade-in service in all stores.
The moves are on top of 2,000 price reductions in the spring/summer edition. The catalogue store group has also increased the number of ‘Wow’ deals to 750 from 500.
Argos, owned by Home Retail Group, has incorporated 7,500 new items in the catalogue, such as 90 more toys in its Chad Valley range.
The catalogue, with a likely circulation of 18 million, will cover the key Christmas period and its publication comes as Argos fights to fend off rivals such as supermarkets.
Home Retail reported in June that first quarter like-for-likes at Argos had slid 8.1%, partly because of a weak video gaming market and lower TV sales.
Argos managing director Sara Weller said she was confident the new catalogue would draw customers by providing “access to the best range of products at good value prices, helping them live for less”.
She added: “We’ve also developed strongly in areas where we see particular customer interest.”
Argos is rolling out its video game trade-in service following a trial in the northeast.
