Weekend figures from customer traffic analyst Footfall showed that after a late rush to stock up on hot weather items such as BBQs, food and drink and summer clothing, the soaring temperatures gave consumers the opportunity to take a weekend off shopping.
FootFall marketing manager Natasha Burton said: 'The weekend became a relative ghost town for many shopping centres, as consumers avoided the indoors. Sunday also saw shopper numbers plummet by 15 per cent. This was expected, however, because each year we see the number of people out shopping dip on Father's Day, as would-be shoppers prefer to relax with their dads.'
