Footfall was down nearly 7% this weekend on the same weekend last year, with the wintry weather being blamed.
According to Footfall data from Experian, Saturday showed a 6.95% decrease in shoppers, with Sunday only marginally better at 6.69% down.
However, analyst Anita Manan said that the timing of Christmas this year, with Christmas Day falling on a Friday, should lead to a bigger last minute peak.
“Consumers may be waiting until the weather settles before making further shopping outings,” she said.
