Philip Downer, the former boss of defunct bookseller Borders UK, is mulling a new retail venture.
Downer wants to open a shop this year. He would not reveal what it would be called or what it would sell, but it is understood books will play a major part.
He said “It’s about getting the right property in the right place.”
He said he had a business plan and financial backing, but would not reveal details. Downer said if the shop performed well he would consider opening more. “I wouldn’t want to start and end with one shop,” he said.
Borders UK collapsed into administration in November 2009. Downer left the business at that time and since set up a company called CBT Trading, where he offers consultancy services to other retailers and businesses in the books trade.
