Deliveroo is planning to create 400 new tech jobs over the course of the next year as it targets further growth.
The online food delivery platform, which has struck deals with the likes of Waitrose, Marks & Spencer and Aldi during the Covid-19 pandemic, said the new hires will include software engineers, data scientists and designers as it seeks to develop its logistics technology.
Deliveroo said the recruitment drive will allow it “improve the experience” for its restaurant partners, riders and customers.
The new hires will also work on new innovations, including expanding Deliveroo’s Signature service and growing its Editions dark kitchens business.
Deliveroo has emerged as one of the UK’s leading tech companies during the past decade, despite a muted IPO on the London Stock Exchange earlier this year.
The business uses its proprietary Frank algorithm to find the most efficient way of connecting restaurants, riders and customers, but it aims to continue improving that tech to drive further efficiencies.
Deliveroo has also improved its platform to allow restaurants to gain real-time feedback and reviews from customers within the app. Restaurants will be able to respond to comments, send vouchers and provider personal offers to new or loyal customers.
The delivery firm said such developments were “more vital then ever” for its restaurant partners as they seek to enhance their digital propositions and grow their customer bases.
