Tesco is rolling out its handheld scanning devices to a further 20 stores in an effort to drive in-store efficiency for its shoppers.
The supermarket has introduced the scan-as-you-go technology, which shoppers can use to track their spend as they shop and use at self-service or manned checkouts, across 350 of its stores.
The grocer has also launched a TV advert to promote the scheme.
Other grocers including Sainsbury’s and Waitrose have introduced self-scan technology to their stores, but Tesco claim that they now offer the devices to shoppers across more of their estate than any of their rivals.
A spokesperson for the retailer said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for customers to shop with us. Scan as You Shop is already used by over 600,000 customers every week, and not only saves time at the checkout, it enables customers to track their spend as they go too.
“This new trial will mean more customers than ever before can benefit from the service and check out in a matter of seconds.”
This is the latest in a raft of changes Tesco has made to streamline its offer and drive convenience for the shopper in recent weeks - the grocer launched same-day click and collect last month and is piloting 24-hour convenience stores to monopolise on the launch of the Night Tube in London.
