Fashion powerhouse Topshop premiered its first-ever Christmas movie today as part of its festive marketing campaign, revealing actress Kate Bosworth as the star.
The short film, directed by Hollywood film director Michael Polish, features Bosworth performing the Winter Wonderland musical sequence inspired by the famous piano scene with Michelle Pfeiffer in film The Fabulous Baker Boys.
In the short film, Bosworth wears a custom-made evening dress that she designed with the Topshop design team. The dress and shows will be available as a special made to order on Topshop.com in conjunction with the new store opening in LA in February next year. Make-up will be available to order immediately from the website, however.
The film will run across all social media sites, Topshop.com, cinemas, digital billboards, across giant screens in Topshop flagship stores and interactive audio windows across the world.
Bosworth said: “This project brings together two important aspects of my life: cinema and fashion. I have always been a fan of the Topshop brand and it has been an honour to work with Sir Philip and the team. I hope everyone enjoys watching it as much as we did making it.”
Topshop ran a competition in the build up to the film’s launch today, showing customers a series of teasers across print, social and digital media through the hash tag #whosthatgirl to see if they could guess who the star was.
Images showed her at London landmarks or with her face obscured and those guessing correctly could win a £500 or $1,000 shopping spree in Topshop.
Topshop chief marketing officer Justin Cooke said: “There is still no greater inspiration than our icons, women have always aspired to look and feel like the stars of silver screen and we wanted to capture that emotion and the magic of Topshop to celebrate the festive season.”
Topshop is aiming for a number one song and the track is available to download through iTunes.
