The battle for convenient and quicker delivery options has been steadily heating up and Waterstones has created a humorous repsonse to Amazon’s latest innovation.
No-one expected Amazon to reveal it is developing a delivery option using unmanned drones, which will be able to get parcels to customers 30 minutes after ordering them.
But, not to be outdone, Waterstones has come up with its own new flying delivery service, OWLS, or the Ornithological Waterstones Landing Service. In a spoof Youtube clip, similar to the drone video issued by Amazon, Waterstones has joked that it plans to use owls to deliver books in a 30 minute service. It will be a while before customers can use it though, as it adds that “putting owls into commercial use will take a number of years as it takes ages for owls to do anything”.
But with the Amazon Prime Air service expected to be available within the next five years it might give Waterstones enough time to get some training in.
