The White City site has gone straight into eighth place in the annual retail ranking, moving Bluewater down to ninth place. The CACI figures take into account factors such as retail mix and market positioning.
The tables also reveal that Liverpool has been lifted by the opening of Grosvenor’s Liverpool One scheme this year, rising one place to sixth.
Bristol has shot up the rankings too, moving up seven places to 15th, while Leicester has moved up to 13th place from 24th following the opening of Highcross Leicester.
However, it has been a tough period for Westfield in the run-up to yesterday’s opening, with retailers expressing frustration at delays and high costs during store fit-outs. Many said their fit-outs had been delayed because of procedures in place on site and several missed the opening date, including Louis Vuitton, which did not open yesterday.
London’s West End remains at the top of the league, followed by Birmingham and Manchester city centres.
The CACI Centre Futures ranking estimates the future position of centres around the UK up until 2018.
