Amazon is ramping up its presence on mobile apps by offering developers incentives to integrate adverts for its products into their applications.
Under the scheme app owners can earn up to 6% in commission from Amazon when users buy a product promoted on their app.
Amazon has launched the programme as m-commerce soars in popularity. In the UK, sales via mobiles rocketed 129% year-on-year in July, according to the IMRG-Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index.
The Amazon programme is for apps run on devices using Google’s Android operating system, including its own Kindle Fire tablet.
Amazon vice president of appstore, games and Cloud Drive Mike George said: “Developers now have the ability to create an even deeper connection between their app and the products customers value and purchase through Amazon.com.
“Imagine a developer of a nutrition and fitness app can now offer their customers the ability to purchase vitamins, supplements and fitness gear within the app, directly from Amazon.com. It offers the customer a more relevant experience and provides the developer with a new source of revenue.”
